Chew Choong Leong commenced his career with Deloitte in the early 1970s, serving in their corporate accounting division before joining an international Dutch aviation group headquartered in The Hague as Head of Finance for their Malaysia operations in April 1977.

The Dutch group’s operations encompassed helicopter services for Flying Doctor Services in Sarawak, East Malaysia, and fixed-wing aircraft services in support of the Oil & Gas industry. In this capacity, he work at the group’s head office in The Hague, providing counsel on financial matters, budgetary discussions, financial prognosis, and briefings on financial policies.

During his 9-year tenure with the Dutch group, he was also posted on various occasions to Lagos to manage the finance department for their Nigerian operations, covering Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Warri.

Drawing on his invaluable experience with the Dutch group, he left in April 1986 to establish his own professional management firm, initially offering accounting, secretarial, and financial advisory services, and subsequently expanding through affiliation with other firms to include audit and tax services.

Choong Leong served two terms as Executive Secretary for the French Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia. In this role, he gained extensive exposure to French business culture while facilitating numerous French business enquiries relating to Malaysia, including the establishment of private limited companies and representative offices for French organisations and individuals.

In the early 1990s, he served as Foundation Secretary for Yayasan Belia Malaysia (YBM), a national youth foundation that served as a stepping stone for many prominent political figures. The past presidents of YBM include the current and former Prime Ministers of Malaysia, former Ministers of Foreign Affairs and former Chief Ministers of State.

He has been instrumental in establishing strong working relationships with overseas affiliates in London, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Singapore, and the offshore jurisdiction hub in Labuan.

He had served on a part-time basis as a lecturer in Corporate Finance with the University of Southern Queensland, Australia and is currently a member of the Malaysia Australia Business Council and also a member in its Committee for Trade and Investment.
